Qld: GE Medical Systems to local service centre in Brisbane

BRISBANE, Dec 8 AAP - GE Medical Systems, a subsidiary of leading US corporation General
Electric, will base its Asia-Pacific service centre in Brisbane.

Queensland Premier Peter Beattie said the state government had provided incentives
to lure the company to Queensland, including an offer to waive payroll tax.

He said the decision by GE Medical Systems to set up a remote diagnostic centre and
an on-line centre in Brisbane would create 70 jobs over three years.

The diagnostic centre would be fitted with high-tech computers allowing remote patient
diagnosis while the on-line centre would allow for repair of medical equipment via in-built
modems, Mr Beattie said.

General Electric Australian and New Zealand chief executive David Moffatt said the
company serviced about 5,000 machines throughout the Asia-Pacific region.
