The Cubs placed pitcher Mike Mason on the 15-day disabled listbecause of tendinitis in his left elbow. Greg Maddux was recalledfrom Class AAA Iowa and will start today against the Mets' RonDarling (9-7). Bob Tewksbury moved from the 15-day DL to the 21-day list. He hadbeen deactivated Thursday because of tendinitis in his rightshoulder. Maddux, sent down Aug. 4 after going 6-10 with a 4.91 ERA, made twoappearances for Iowa. He pitched a complete-game four-hitter againstBuffalo before being rained out after 40 pitches Thursday.
